I am an Information Technology and Management System professional with over twenty eight years of experience in many organizations operating in different sectors where I performed various roles as IT Director, IT Group Manager, Project Manager, Business Analyst, ERP Consultant, Team Leader, System Admin, Production Planning Engineer and Industrial Engineer.

In the first ten years of my working life I worked as an  industrial and production engineer and now I have been working with information systems for the last 18 years of my working life. During this period, I’ve found a chance to implement almost all business functions of operating organizations, from procurement management to financial accounting, from cost control systems to human resources management, from sales and marketing to machine maintenance….and so on. I have an hands-on experienced in all these business processes.

Apart from information technology, I am interested in astronomy, innovation, financial economy and history.

Industrial Engineering

After graduating from Istanbul Technical University in 1990, I started my career as an industrial engineer at Kordsa Kordbezi Inc, a subsidiary of Sabancı Holding. I have earned my Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Yıldız Technical University in 1992 and in the same year, I also completed the International Management Certificate Program of Istanbul University in English, which was accepted as an Executive MBA Program.

My Master’s thesis which has been carried out with the help of a simulation software, was a part of a project at Kordsa related with the solution alternatives of the machine interference problem. I wrote an article named  ‘Machine Interference Problem in Textile Sector’  that summarized the outcomes of this project and presented it at the International Operations Research/Industrial Engineering Congress held in Istanbul, in 1993. My thesis and this work in it was also presented at the Operations Research Congress in Spain a year later. In 1997, I was invited to the ‘15th International System Dynamics Conference’ as a keynote speaker on the same topic.

While working at Kordsa which I consider it as a second school, I’ve learnt a great deal of operations management such as work study, feasibility study, Total Quality Management (TQM), Business Process Re-engineering (BPR), Production Planning and Lean Production to Six Sigma..etc in 10 years.

I also had the opportunity to gain experience in implementing of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems, Cost Account System of the Sabancı Holding, Economic Value Added (EVA) financial system…etc. In those years, Kordsa won the Tüsiad-Kalder Total Quality Excellence Award for the first time.

Information Technology

The participating in a core team member of the SAP ERP Project in my first employer (one of the first projects in Turkey) allowed me to have a high level of autonomy & creativity as well as to have new opportunities. The new job offer together with the painful earthquake took place in 1999, made me decide to change my career and the city I lived drastically.

In the year 2000, I made a fresh start by getting my MBA degree in Yeditepe University and  starting to work as an SAP Logistics Module Consultant (Production Planning, Quality Management, Materials Management, Sales and Distribution Modules..etc) at Fako Pharmaceuticals Company where I was promoted to Project Manager, later.

Since then, information systems and ERP have been a part of my life. I have sucessfully participated in numerous information technology projects and still continue to contribute with a great pleasure.

I worked in many different types of IT projects, in different industries such as FMCG  (Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Food), Textiles (fibers, yarns and fabrics), Automotive, Chemicals, Maritime, Stationery and Printing, Agriculture, Iron & Steel, Logistics and Distribution, Energy, Heavy Machinery, Engineering and Construction.

I have had hands-on experience in materials management, procurement, sales and marketing, customer relations, cost accounting, finance, general accounting, business and process analysis and  business intelligence.

I involved in the implementation projects of IT infrastructure, document management and enterprise resource planning systems (ERP) not only in Turkey but also in Britain, Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman.

I have worked with severaral ERP softwares Microsoft Axapta, Oracle, Netsis, Logo, AMAPS/Q, Peoplesoft and mainly SAP.

I have gained invaluable knowledge and experience in designing  IT infrastructure, Data Centers and Wide Area Networks (WAN), IT hardware investments, IT Outsourcing and Supplier Management, IT Risk Management, Information Security Management and ISO 27701 Certification process, IT service management (ITIL), Software Development projects, Software Validation projects, Project Management (I have PMP Project Management Certificate issued by PMI) and Turquality process.

I am also a member of an international ERP Commitee, named Global SAP Advisory Council EC & O Engineering, Construction & Operation in which the demands and problems about the construction industry are discussed, business processes are benchmarked and the new technolgical business solutions and improvements are shared. In this Council, I have found the chance to meet with the CIOs of the world’s leading construction companies to discuss and the shape the future of the construction industry.

I’ve witnessed  that the pace of technological progress, especially information technology has been speeded up exponentially  since the year 2010. I think we are at the dawn of a new era of innovation. A different world is waiting for my 12-year-old daughter.

In this blog, my personal aim is to be a mentor for the future generations and to contribute a little bit to my country’s IT vision for a better future. I am sharing my ideas on the field of information technology, my experiences in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (especially SAP), common challenges in Project Management enriched with my MBA and industrial engineering knowledge and finally my explanations of innovation.

I believe that sharing information is critical for the innovation, and any shared information will create valuable synergies in the future.
